Privacy notice

Water Insider, a service of Lumetra. Version 1.1, last updated 11 October 2026.

Before publishing, replace the three bracketed items below: the Lumetra legal entity name and company number, the registered address, and the name of the email platform if you use one. Nothing else needs changing.

Who we are

Water Insider is a service operated by [LUMETRA LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [a company registered in Scotland under number NNNNNN / a business operated by Steve Slessor], of [REGISTERED OR BUSINESS ADDRESS]. In this notice "we", "us" and "Lumetra" all mean that organisation.

Lumetra is the data controller for the personal data described here. That means we decide what is collected and why, and we are responsible for looking after it.

You can reach us at hello@waterinsider.co.uk for anything in this notice, including a request to see or delete your data.

What this notice covers

It covers the personal data we collect when you register to use the UK Water Tender Radar at waterinsider.co.uk, and when you receive email from us as a result. It does not cover any other Lumetra service or any site we link to.

What we collect, and why

WhatWhy we need itOur lawful basis
Your nameto know who is using the service and to address you properly in emailLegitimate interests
Your work email addressto give you access, and to send you the round up if you asked for itLegitimate interests for access, consent for marketing email
Your companyto understand which parts of the water market use the serviceLegitimate interests
Your role, chosen from a listthe same, and to decide what we build nextLegitimate interests
Whether you ticked the email boxto record your choiceLegal obligation, and consent
A password, stored scrambledso you can sign back in. We store a one way hash, never the password itself, and nobody here can read itLegitimate interests
Date, time, IP address and browserkept as evidence of when you registered and what you chose, as the regulator expectsLegal obligation
When you last signed into know which accounts are still in use, and to delete the ones that are notLegitimate interests
One time links sent to your emailto confirm the address is yours and to let you reset a forgotten passwordLegitimate interests

Our legitimate interest is in operating a free service, keeping it secure, understanding who uses it, and keeping readers informed about this market. We have weighed that against your interests and consider it proportionate, because the data is limited to business contact details and account security records, you are told about it plainly at the point of registration, and you can object or unsubscribe at any time at no cost to you.

About the email briefing

Registering creates your account and signs you up to the Water Insider briefing. We tell you this before you register, not afterwards. The briefing is part of the service and is how a free tool stays free.

Unsubscribing never costs you your access. Every briefing carries a one click unsubscribe link. Use it and the emails stop, and your login keeps working exactly as before. We do not make you accept email in order to use the radar, because consent given under that kind of pressure would not be valid and we would rather simply tell you the deal.

The optional tick box at registration is separate and genuinely optional. It covers occasional notes about Lumetra's advisory services. Leaving it unticked changes nothing about your account or the briefing.

We use website analytics that do not set cookies and do not identify individual visitors. There is no advertising, no tracking across other websites and no profiling that produces any legal or similarly significant effect on you.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not rent, share or otherwise pass it to other organisations for their own marketing. We do not buy lists and add them to ours.

Who else sees it

Only the suppliers who help us run the service, each acting on our instructions under contract:

We will also disclose data if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid request from a regulator or a court.

Where it is held

Your data is held in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. If we later use a supplier that stores data elsewhere, we will put the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or an equivalent safeguard, in place first and update this notice.

How long we keep it

We keep your account for 24 months after you last sign in or last open one of our emails. After that we delete it, including the stored password hash. If you ask us to delete it sooner we will.

One time confirmation and password reset links are deleted as soon as they are used, and expire within an hour in any case.

If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record of your email address on a suppression list so that we do not email you again by accident. That is the only reason we keep it, and we keep it indefinitely for that purpose.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

You can also object to our use of your data on the basis of legitimate interests. Email hello@waterinsider.co.uk and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. Using it stops all marketing email from us immediately.

If you are unhappy

Tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. Complaining to us first is not a precondition.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we use your data we will update this page and change the version number and date at the top. If the change is significant we will email anyone on our list before it takes effect.
